You are here: News > Absconded Debtor? Trace Needed!

So your customer has run off without paying you?  How much do you know about them?  To find an individual the more information you have the better.  Very often businesses come to us asking to find a debtor but they have very little information on them.  Whilst tracing an individual can be attempted with little information, a full name and date of birth or name and residential address are really a minimum.  So before you give a new client credit, check that you have the individual or business partners name.  It is often difficult to recover a debt from "Anybody & Co" as you do not have a name or the partner’s names.  So unless this is a “professional practice” recovery will be very difficult.  Even more so if your client is “The Corner Shop”!!  And do they actually live on the premises?  If this is a rented office/unit the Client may be able to move on very quickly leaving you with no contact point.  Similarly, if you do have your client name and they abscond we may be able to trace a “John Smith” but without the date of birth it will be difficult to confirm that we have traced the right one.  Obtaining this basic information first shows that you are aware of potential problems and may reduce the risk of loss!  If you have little information, then you can always give us a call and see what we an find out – before or after the problem.
